Today we went to another meet and came home with a silver medal. The first of 4 matches started off a little rocky. He got thrown to the mat, knocking his loose tooth almost out and he could not focus on anything else. He lost the match by points, came over and spit the tooth in my hand. Poor little guy. I was not sure he was going to be able to recover from the trauma but after a lot of tears we got him back out on the mat: Three pins later he was beaming from ear to ear wearing his silver metal. The kid who knocked out his tooth ended up taking home the gold. Not bad for a beginner.
I have a lot to learn about wrestling but one thing I do know is it is not for the weak. Those kids give it all they've got, using a tremendous amount of energy and strength.

Hey! Woo hoo!!! Go Jackson!!! Dietrich came home with a silver on Saturday, too, and he is SOOO excited that you're wrestling.
We'll come cheer him on. Not sure wrestling is for this family. Basketball...yes. Soccer...okay. Wrestling...I'll tell you later Aidan's comments about it. Might not be blog-appropriate.
So funny. I thought Jackson would put up a fight about the uniform (singlet) but that was the least of his concern. Turns out his biggest anxiety comes from wrestling kids he doesn't know. He ended up wrestling a friend at the last tournament and it was the first time I saw him get excited about a match. I hope we can keep him motivated. He is pretty tough. When he found out the state tournament has huge trophies he decided he would like to give it a try.
That's pretty much how yous stay motivated in wrestling. Pick up a little hardware.
I've just begun to introduce Dietrich to the Hagakure, however, which should provide additional internal motivation.
Thanks for the warning. Guess I won't go into wrestling then. I think Jackson has the build and personality for it though. Go Jackson!
way to go jackson! i haven't a doubt in my mind that he would be great at it. he's a tough one!
